All that changes when Penny discovers a small, fluffy, funny, springy and – most importantly – talking creature in the post office one night, trying to make off with a letter.

But Wishyouwas is no thief. He's a Sorter, and he soon introduces Penny to a fascinating secret world hidden in the tunnels underneath the city's streets. Self-appointed guardians of lost mail, the Sorters have dedicated their lives to rescuing letters that have gone astray and making sure they get delivered to their rightful owners.

Penny is determined to protect the Sorters, but how long will she be able to keep them safe with Stanley Scrawl, the sinister Royal Mail Rat Catcher, on the prowl? Can Penny save the Sorters and deliver a joyful Christmas?

▪︎What I thought of the book:
Did I read my last favourite book of 2023!? I don't know if my review will do enough justice to it but I'll try my best.

So let me start at the very beginning (because it's a very good place to start), I can't emphasise on how adorable this book, story and characters are.

I loved the relationship between Penny and Wishyouwas even when things went wrong. Even at 25, this story taught me the true meaning of trust and friendship.

This book is more suitable for the younger audience and I remember picking it up in December and having my little brother comment that he absolutely loved it (that's when I remembered that I bought this book for him). I can assure you that kids would love it, especially with all the beautiful illustrations.

The little Sorters have my heart, especially Wishyouwas. With his incorrect grammar, he is the cutest character I've ever met and only if I could meet him in real life.

Overall, it's a cozy, beautiful, Christmas-sy and heartwarming book which could be read aloud to kids to age from 1 to 92🤍

Went to watch Wolves in the Walls at the Little Angel theatre in London and on the way, stopped rock still outside a shop window and started yelping with joy because I spotted this beauty by @jennimurphyart!

Naturally, the shop owners needed to be informed that her sister @stefmurf illustrates and they absolutely needed to stock her books, too.

Having been a postman for five years I loved it, everything about it oozed charm and magic. My youngest was sat after trying to make up more names for wishyouwas friends. Highly recommended.

We're so excited to have both @alexandrapagebooks and @pennynl joining us on Saturday 19th November for what promises to be a fabulously festive Wishyouwas afternoon!

From 2pm-3pm there'll be a reading and draw-along with chance to get your book signed! Places are free, but limited so be sure to book a spot via our website!

They'll also be staying after the event to sign copies for anyone unable to come to that session, or for those of you who might like to pick up a dedicated Christmas gift!

The illustrations by Stef Murphy are absolutely stunning! I could take a picture of every page! The tones of blues and oranges are atmospheric and totally captivating! My little ones spent a lot of time touching the pages and the tiger! This has to be one of the most beautiful books we’ve seen this year!

This is an exceptional book for opening discussions about worries, anxieties and big feeling and how we can combat them! At the back there is a brilliant section of some mindful exercise everyone can do to help relax and feel good.

One of my children has show and tell every week and she chooses something a day before and we go through what she can say about her special item. This week I’m going to suggest she takes this book with her just incase she, or anyone else, has a worry about show and tell!

We really love this book, it should be on every book shelf!
